James Island Charter High School in Charleston SC converted from T8 lighting to new standard T5. Redblue was able to retrofit the existing light ballasts at a considerable savings compared to replacing the existing light fixtures.
The conversion has resulted in a 53% reduction in their lighting energy consumption. The School will save $276,000 over the next 5 years by doing this project. The check for $82,091 from SCE&G (SC electric and Gas) account for 50% of the total project cost.
Over and above saving an average of $38,500 per year on electricity over the next 5 years, the school is saving $7,500 per year in ballast replacement cost and $9,000 per year in heat load savings because T5 burns much cooler than their old lighting.
